Recyclable Commodities

Birch recycling accepts all of these grades of Recyclable Commodities.

Grades consist of:

Paper

  • post-consumer (retail use, packaging or generated from a household)
    • junk mail, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, paper cartons, office paper
  • pre-consumer (businesses that make or use paper in their process or print junk mail or make boxes)
    • Grades: printers mix, white ledger, hard white envelope, all publishing grades, all corrugated grades

Non-Paper

  • #1 – (PET- Polyethylene Terephthalate) Pop bottles, water bottles, salad dressing bottles, peanut butter containers
  • #2- (HDPE- High-Density Polyethylene) Milk jugs and cartons, laundry detergent containers, butter and yogurt tubs, juice bottles, cereal box liners, shampoo bottles, household cleaner bottles
  • #3- (PVC- Vinyl) food wrapping, plumbing pipes,
  • #4 – (LDPE- Low-Density Polyethylene) shopping bags, clothing carpet, bread bags, squeeze bottles
  • #5 – (PP- Polypropylene) yogurt containers, ketchup and syrup bottles, medicine bottles
  • #6 – (PS- Polystyrene ) styrofoam egg cartons, meat trays, disposable plates and cups

Metals also have to be grade specific. They are more expensive, they melt at different temperatures and don’t tolerate as much contamination. we are interested in looking at and talking to anyone with metal waste to recycle.
